Workout Tips – Weight Training

Health is Wealth. Exercises in any form, light or heavy, aerobic or anaerobic, isotonic or isometric will greatly benefit your body and provide you preventive measures for problems that normally befall us.

Most of you might at one time or the other faced serious health problems, which arises due to neglect of your body. This has detrimental effects in the long run. Exercises in any form, light or heavy, aerobic or anaerobic, isotonic or isometric will greatly benefit your body and provide you preventive measures that normally befall us.

I will be explaining various techniques and forms of exercises, which you can inculcate into your system and benefit from the same. Techniques will be explained in detail for exercise forms such as Weight Training, Yoga, Aerobics. Also included would be information on massage techniques, which I know will greatly benefit you.

CAUTION TO BE EXERCISED : Please consult a Doctor before you start with any strenous forms of exercise.

REASON : If your heart is not capable of withstanding the amount of blood it has to pump after performing an exercise, it may have serious repercussions. This is due to the fact that the normal heart beat rate is 70 to 76 beats/ min, which will rise to 140 to 160 beats/ min; depending on the kind of exercise activity carried out.

Weight Training

I have tried my best to put in the details that I have gained through experience over 18 years (since 1989), and my assimilation (personally meeting these greats) of information from Weight Training greats like Prem Chand Dogra (1988 Mr. Universe) , Jim Quinn (A world class Bodybuilder from USA), Prakash Koyande (9 times Mr. India), Carlos Bolado (Late Cuban Boxer), Eric Griffin (American Boxer), Zoramthanga (Indian Boxer), Manohar Aich (1952 Mr. Universe), and my coach Sudhir Vikhankar.

Special mention of my Gym. partners, Sudhir Vikhankar, Mahesh G, late. Vijay Rai, and a special friend Harun Sheikh.

Manohar Aich. The grand old man of Indian Bodybuilding, who was crowned Mr. Universe in the year 1952. He is still very much active and guides young people in his gymnasium in W. Bengal. We had invited him for a muscle demonstration during the Senior National Bodybuilding championship in the year 1992. At the time, he was aged 79 and was a sight to behold. He remarked “Bachho, Vyayam karte hi rehna. Kabhi rokhna nahi. Aap ko zindagi mein kuch bhi dikhat nahi honge”. It translates to “Children, keep exercising. Don’t ever stop and you will never face any health problems in your life”. (When  I write this blog) Today he is aged 93 (2000-01 year) and still going strong and would give any of our movie heroes and strongmen a run for their money with his perfect physique and absolute total control over his body. No doubt, the world acknowledges him as the “Pocket Hercules” of Bodybuilding. The other “Pocket Hercules” is Niam Suleymanoglu of Bulgaria who is considered as one of the all-time greats of weight lifting. (Recent Update : He  is no more amongst us. On 5 June 2016, Manohar Aich died in Kolkata, aged 104 years).

Weight Training is a form of exercise that is primarily used to develop strength and size of the skeletal muscles. The basic principle used is that of resistance training, which has found global acceptance as one of the most primary strength training methods.

Under the right training and tutelage, weight training can provide you with significant benefits and drastic improvements in overall health.
